Care and Cleaning of your Lizart Creations art jewelry

The secret to long-lasting jewelry is in its care and maintenance. Just like your other treasured possessions, Lizart Creations pieces should be cleaned regularly to keep dust, dirt, and body oils from accumulating on the piece's surfaces. Hair sprays, perfumes even direct heat and sunlight can permenantly damage the gemstone, pearl or mineral's surface. Use a soft flannel cloth, dampened with warm water to remove dirt and soil. This is especially safe with porous stones like lapis lazuli, moonstone, amber, turquoise, coral, shell, soapstone and especially pearls.

For harder and non porous gemstones, mild soap and warm water can be used periodically to remove build-up. Gold, silver and copper should be wiped with a polishing cloth to remove dirt and oxidation. Be careful not to rub the stones and minerals with the cloth. Over time light scratches created by rubbing the cloth over the stone will dull its polished surfaces. Use a soft clean toothbrush to access those hard to reach areas inside rings or bracelets, especially behind the stone. As a rule, do not use harsh chemicals on your minerals and organic stones. A diluted solution of ammonia and water cleans gold very well, but do not use bleach on gold, yes, that means no dips in the pool with your gold jewelry on. Silver is particularly vunerable to sulphur and other hotsprings mineral exposure.

Also be aware that some gemstones such as opal have a high water content and prolonged exposure to the sunlight will permanently damage the stone.

Caution, sun heated jewelry can cause burns.
